L-3 GCS Introduces Interoperable Outdoor Unit Based on iDirect iConnex™ E800 Series Satellite Router

VICTOR, N.Y., July 08, 2008 - L-3 GCS, a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications, has teamed with iDirect Government Technologies (iGT) to introduce a VSAT Modem/PA unit that extends mission critical voice, video and data connectivity to Department of Defense personnel in the field. The outdoor unit is fully interoperable with all L-3 GCS auto-acquiring satellite systems, including the widely-deployed Cheetah™ and Hawkeye™ lines.
The new outdoor unit combines the iDirect iConnex™ e800 satellite router and a 25 watt wideband Xicom power amplifier into a single box that is driven by iDirect’s award-winning iVantage network management software. The iConnex™ e800 provides robust security capabilities and is equipped with AES 256-bit encryption, TRANSEC and FIPS 140-2 Certification. The unit also provides DSL and Ethernet interface capabilities and features a managed switch to protect against unwanted network access.
“This unit responds to our customers’ need for flexibility and reduces cost as it is compatible with both new and legacy systems and is interoperable with our Cheetah and Hawkeye lines” said Bob Jacobson, executive vice president and general manager of L-3 GCS.
