Whether the need is combat support, intelligence, executive travel, special missions or homeland security, the Panther™ VSAT terminal from L-3 GCS provides high-speed data communications for Internet, VPN connectivity and video transmission. This highly rugged VSAT manpack terminal is light weight, highly portable and offers Inmarsat BGAN-like simplicity, but with significantly high data rates over commercial and military satellites.
The complete terminal is designed to be carried in a ‘rucksack’ or carried aboard a commercial airliner. The smallest, most rugged VSAT terminal of its type, the Panther™ provides up to 3 Mbps (transmit) and up to 6 Mbps (receive) data rates.
The standard manpack terminal is offered with an embedded iDirect Evolution iConnex e850mp modem with DVB-S2 receive capability and TDMA return channel. The modem incorporates Adaptive Code Modulation (ACM), which allows for high data throughput and flexibility in disadvantaged satellite coverage areas. The Panther™ integrates an elegant, but simple manual antenna pointing method using intuitive visual indicators. This allows for easy, accurate, and quick acquisition without bulky motors, drive systems or complex test equipment.
The high gain of the antenna enables the terminal to be used in less than optimal locations within the satellite footprint. Ethernet data interfaces are provided for connection of various data, voice and video devices using an Everything Over IP (EoIP) approach. Control is via a simple, embedded web-based GUI.
