POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:                        Senior Product Engineer
DEPARTMENT:                  Engineering

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Reporting to and working with the Director of Engineering, the Senior Product Engineer is responsible for the design and integration of new products and/or programs, including secure communications transit case systems and satellite communications systems and associated equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Development of requirements for new products and the ability to derive product requirements from customer requirements.

Identification and introduction of technologies and/or external products that can be incorporated into new products.

Development of schedules and budgets for new product or program execution. 

Tracking the execution of multiple projects.

Component and system level testing to validate performance of design

Release of prototypes to production and support of introduction of products to a manufacturing environment as part of a cross functional team.

Contribute as a leader of one or more project teams and monitor team performance in meeting technical and schedule goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or communications engineering preferred; 8+ years hands-on experience in the design of electronic systems required. Individual must be experienced in the use of computer based engineering tools in the design of products.  Individual must have demonstrated the successful introduction of electronic products into manufacturing.  Knowledge of and experience with complex communication systems, satellite communications equipment and IP networks and/or VolP is highly desired.  Individual experience leading and tracking small teams in the realization of project goals is highly desired.  Secret clearance highly desired; ability to obtain clearance is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, understand and interpret electronic schematics, drawings and documentation. Excellent communication skills required, both verbal and written.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to calculate ratio, percent, proportions, draw and interpret graphs.  Ability to understand use engineering mathematics to solve problems.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and solve practical problems; deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to analyze complex problems and to derive recommended courses of action based on that analysis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, talk, see and hear; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.  Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment is that of a typical professional engineering office with occasional exposure to dust, vapors, heat, cold and noise.
