June 2002 - The US Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded a contract for satellite phone airtime, equipment and services to Global Communications Solutions (GCS) of Victor NY. GCS along with four others will provide INMARSAT equipment and airtime services for a period of ten years. With a 10-year total potential value of all contracts awarded of $1B, it ranks as one of the largest small business contracts ever awarded by the U.S. Government. "GCS will provide the Defense Department with a comprehensive range of land, sea, and airborne satellite terminals along with the fully terminated satellite telephone service to and from these terminals, worldwide. The contract also includes installation, maintenance, and extended warranty for all of the products," according to Frank York, President of GCS. "This is clearly one of the most comprehensive and complete contract vehicles ever awarded for this type of service. Typically, the contracts are separated into equipment, airtime, and maintenance at a much smaller value. This contract is all-inclusive and leverages our ability to provide a total communications solution," said Tim Young, Director INMARSAT Business. GCS has been providing INMARSAT equipment, airtime, and maintenance services since the company's inception in 1995, and is one of INMARSAT's leading domestic distributors. GCS is a provider of a broad range of satellite, wireless and terrestrial communications solutions to US and international Government and commercial customers. Examples include portable videophone solutions used by major news broadcasters, rapidly deployable systems to provide telecommunications infrastructure in case of emergencies including disaster response/recovery, Homeland Defense, and emergency backup communications for corporate networks. |
