 GCS's Regional BGAN satellite-modem offers true "IP" connectivity from a coverage area serving up to 99 countries across Europe, the Middle East, the Indian sub-continent, Central Asia, and North, Central and West Africa. The hardware of the satellite modem is about the size of a personal laptop computer. This R-BGAN unit connects to a standard personal computer using the plug and play features of the modem itself (USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth). R-BGAN service is based on Internet Protocol (IP) and Packet-Data (GPRS) technologies, charging not by duration (per-minute basis) but rather by the amount of data one transfers (per-Mbyte). Users share a 144 Kbps channel over the satellite network. Because the service is based on IP packet technology, users only pay for the amount of data they send and receive, and not for the amount of time spent online. This enables them to stay 'always connected' to the Internet. Applications: - Email
