L-3 GCS Receives the First Military Band Type Approval
for Inmarsat GX Land Terminals
VICTOR, N.Y., October 21, 2013 - L-3 GCS announced today that it has obtained the first I-5 Type Approvals from Inmarsat for its Ka-Band Panther™ and Hawkeye™ series of VSATs. In 2012, L-3 GCS was named a satellite land terminal manufacturing partner for Inmarsat's Global Xpress (GX) service.
"Having already received ARSTRAT certification for Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS), our Panther and Hawkeye Ka-Band VSATs were easily transitioned to Type Approval by Inmarsat's technical team," said Bill Harrington, vice president of engineering and L-3 lead for Inmarsat GX programs.
L-3 GCS brings the field-tested credibility that Global Xpress customers require when upgrading to Ka-Band speed and coverage. By joining L-3 GCS' ARSTRAT-certified Panther and Hawkeye terminals with Inmarsat's managed global services, customers will realize the value and flexibility of combining national MILSATCOM with instantaneous, portable, on-demand commercial VSAT services under any operational scenario anywhere in the world.
"L-3 GCS should be congratulated on its focused and highly professional approach," said David Schoen, vice president of product and service development at Inmarsat. "The company is the first Inmarsat manufacturing partner to achieve military band Type Approval for its GX terminals."
Scheduled to achieve full global coverage by the end of 2014, Global Xpress will offer an unprecedented combination of high data rates, bandwidth portability and global coverage. Inmarsat's new satellite network aligns with the trend by governments worldwide to shift operations to Ka-Band and will provide high-speed uplink and downlink data rates. Global Xpress is the only global Ka-Band system of its kind and will enhance L-3 GCS' highly transportable, rugged and reliable VSAT product lines for use in a variety of applications and missions.
