L3 GCS and AvL Technologies Unveil New DarkWing™ Flat Panel VSAT at SATELLITE 2018

VICTOR, N.Y./ASHEVILLE, N.C., March 13, 2018 - L3 GCS and AvL Technologies announced today that they have developed a Ka-Band flat panel satellite communications terminal. The new DarkWing™ terminal has been produced to meet customer objectives for a lightweight, small, rugged and portable system that provides high-speed data communications for Internet, VPN connectivity and video transmission. The DarkWing terminal will debut in both the L3 and AvL exhibits (Booths 700 and 417) at the SATELLITE 2018 show in Washington, D.C., on March 13-15.

"We are delighted to provide a solution to our customers that delivers global Ka-Band coverage, is small enough to fit in a backpack or laptop case, and in most cases, can be mission-ready in less than five minutes," said Charlie Daniels, President of L3 GCS. "The collaboration with AvL allows us to offer our customers a reliable product from two organizations with strong reputations for quality SATCOM offerings."

"When we were approached by a customer to design and build an ultra-compact flat panel Ka-Band terminal, we engaged L3 GCS to collaborate," said Mike Proffitt, President of AvL Technologies. "Our engineering teams worked together to develop a product that's easy to operate, high performing, rugged and robust - and it's not much larger than a laptop. We fully anticipate this product to be a key resource for many customers."
